29-year-old drowns to death in Abandoned Sand Mining Pond in Kakumiro

Shock has engulfed residents of Kyajaawa village, Mpasaana town council in Kakumiro district after a 29-year-old man died after drowning into a sand mining pond.
The deceased is Felix Ndyomugabe, who was staying with his grandmother in Katuugo village, Kyobu Parish, Kisiita Sub County, Kakumiro district.
The body was retrieved yesterday morning.
Saverio Tindimwebwa, the uncle of the deceased, narrates that Ndyomugabe drowned while fishing.
Alex Tugume, the village Chairperson of Katuugo Cell, reveals that Ndyomugabe is the sixth person to die from drowning in the same pond, calling on the government to put measures and guidelines for those involved in sand mining to prevent such incidents.
Residents say that the ponds have become a death trap for human and domestic animals.
By press time, Mpasaana Police had retrieved the body as investigations continue.
