Bitter Exchange as Village Chairman Francis Kamaina Oppose Proposal to Suspend Hawkers

Written by on 07/02/2022

The Sub County Chief for Matale in Kibaale District, Immaculate Namukisa has threatened to suspended hawkers who attend the weekly Buseesa Market every Wednesday over its legality and license.

This follows a bitter exchange of words between Namukisa and the Chairperson LCI Buseesa A, Francis Kamaina.

It all ensued yesterday as the leaders unveiled the proposed physical development plan for Hakasalaba trading centre as Kamaina insisted that Chief Namukisa has no authority to suspend the hawkers from the market.

KDR fm reporter has learnt that the Buseesa A village authorities led by Kamaina collect money in form of revenue from the hawkers and vendors there.

In a meeting held on Friday, a section of residents also supported the Sub County Chief’s suggestion to suspend the hawkers’ market asserting that this is a sign of corruption amongst lower local leaders in the Sub County especially in Buseesa “A” Village.

However, the LC.III Chairperson Herbert Sekaja and the LC.I Chairperson Francis Kamaina have dismissed the allegations of corruption.

In the meeting, Buseesa Catholic parish Priest Rev Fr Kisembo Godfrey has called for unity among Matale Sub County leaders asking them to take the solidarity example of Kasaija Matia, Noeline Basemera and Dr Emely Kugonza.
